"Little Boy Moondog" (Moondog poem three)

Little Boy Moondog
(Poem Three)

The little boy Moondog, got lost
in the woods,
led by the Mooncat, who was
led by the Moonrat,
and thus, began to cry;
his tears, appear’d white
(perhaps from kissing the cat and the rat)
now sorrow pale, the lonely kid
lost his tail,
still lost somewhere in the woods.

To make a long story short, let me say,
the cat and the rat, turned green
as they laughed, laughed
like dimpling streams
and the grasshopper laughed
that couldn’t be seen—

Then Grandma Moondog
saved the day (sweet round mouth)
“Ha, ha, he!” she said to
to little boy Moondog,
as they laughed merrily
all the way home,
to Moondog Bay.
